After looking around this site my question may be too simple to address---I have a cannon SX 30 ( I love!) & am looking for a camera easy to use & carry and great photos! I'd like to improve my cammera skills but, want the option of full automatice. Final decision pending!!! any opinions?

I think you need to ween yourself from full automatic if you want to increase your camera skills. try using your SX 30 in aperture, shutter priority, or even manual modes, then make your decision.

Either the SX50 now, or the SX60 when it comes out in a few weeks.

Do you want better image quality or a monster zoom? dpreview hasn't done a review of the g16 yet but here's from the g15:

ISO 100
SX50 first then the g15

I'm surprised at the results, but here's a comparison opf specs from snapsort.

You know that the SX60 has been announced, right?

The SX50 has a much smaller sensor so image quality suffers.

I should have linked to dpreview as the source of the above images. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-powershot-sx50-hs/7

Apple and Orange. I don't think these camera's were designed to compete. I found the G16 to be an excellent "city" camera, but the zoom is way too short for open country. The SX50, with it's long zoom, is better suited to open country, but the IQ is not as good up close. Decide which factor is most important to you first.

@mama.Janet: The wait is over! The Canon Powershot SX60HS is now available at Ebay.com for $549.00. With a bundle of accessories (32gb memory card, lens hood, telephoto/wide lenses, tripod, etc., etc), it costs $599.00.

I ordered a SX-60HS a week ago from Amazon to be shipped in the middle of October.

I have owned both the SX30 and The SX40 and liked them both. Ended up giving them to family members who were in need of a better camera than their phones.

Being a nikon guy since 1966 I decided to try a P600. Been using it for 4 months now and I am not that thrilled with it so I am passing it down. The P600 has had a nasty habit of freezing up when you need it most. Have to remove the battery and reboot the camera. Also the on-off button is recessed to far. In addition I have found more barrel distortion and image degradation on zooming past 800mm than the Canon super zooms.

A couple of features on the New SX60 are being able to go to 21mm on the zoom and the WiFi feature to send photos to my Smart Ass Phone. I don't know why Canon decided to extend the zoom way past 1000mm. To do so most likely is the reason the lens is optically slower than the previous models. I like to shoot in low light so I will have to more careful about holding the camera steady in those conditions. To me the perfect super zoom lens would be 18 to 800 mm with a 2x digital feature.

I just love the the bridge cameras for outings with the family. Beats lugging around 30 pounds of Pro gear.

Thank you, good idea. To practice the manual setting with my current camera, my beloved brick! I was also wanting something lighter and maybe not pocket sized but, smaller. I didn't know a 60 was in the works & will talke a look at that. Thank you for all the great insites and advice. I appreciate each of you taking time to write.

These are very different cameras. The SX50 and SX60 have that long zoom range. The G16 has a larger sensor and a faster lens so it's better in low light, and it has better image quality. Plus it fits in a pocket. These cameras are more complimentary than competitive.
