I have been dabbling in digital photography for a number of years and have yet to figure out all the things my cameras can do. I have two Olympus cameras, an old C-700 Ultra Zoom and a new VR-320. The old cam was great as it had a view finder but the new ones do not so it is practically impossible to frame a scene in bright out doors as you can't see the LCD screen. Does anyone have a solution to this?

yes...a camera with a viewfinder...can't imagine not having a view finder....there are some really good digital point and shoots with viewfinders and other bells and whistles, however they are fixed lens cameras with some limnitations

Thanks for the response but you missed my point. Do you know of a way to shade the LCD screen in the bright outdoors so you can see your subject and frame it properly.

Gosh, you would think that would all of the cameras out there, someone would have invented something by now. Of course, it would require some thought as it would need to be universal. Maybe I'll think about it. Kind of like the old days of photography when the photographer would get under the black cloth!

Just for grins I googled your Olympus VR 320 and sure enough, there's no viewfinder... sorta like a bicycle with no handle bars...I also googled Nikon's similar camera and again no viewfinder...that would make me crazy...if and when you can afford a new camera I would highly recommednd a camera with one...

I have an old Olympus 700 but it is only a 2 meg pixel camera. But full of functionality AND a reflex view finder. Guess I'll go out into the shop and invent something. Nice chatting. I'm from Tx as well, Austin and Kerrville. Was going to retire in K'ville but the property taxes chased me to AZ.

You might find something here:

If there's not one for your particular camera, you might find one that you could easily adapt.

There are some LCD shades made. They carried them at Walmart for a while but I haven't seen them for a while. I have seen some in eBay searches though.

Thanks, I have tried those you suggested. They do cut the glare and you can see the screen but my face is reflected on the screen then! So it just creates another problem. I think I may contrive some sort of cloth cover on the bill of a ball cap that will cover the entire area and try that. Question is, will I still get the reflected ugly mug! Watch this space and thanks for all the help.
