Hi, I was given a Nikkormat at the age of 16. LOVED the camera. At 55, just now learning to REALLY use my DSLR. I am writing a cookbook and need to perfect my food photographs. Any tips ? I am having a problem with lighting. Any specific bulbs ? Please let me know.
Thank you !
Remember , these photos can only get better !!
Pound cake
guacamole
Feta cheese linguine
Softboxes are almost always complementary to food. any indirect/diffused light is better than direct light in most cases.
Thank you ! and 'soft box's', do I buy them at a camera store? Sorry, never worked with lighting before, at least not to this extent.
I am not familiar with terms...or do you really mean a cardboard box ?

Hi Michelle and welcome to the forum. I bought a Nikkormat at about age 20 and also loved it. In fact, I still have the dinosaur! 8-)
I can almost smell the food mmmm hungry.
The photos you posted are all soft in regard to focus...thats' not good.
If you want to fill a certain niche then study the techniques of those who photograph food on a daily basis....you can't just wing it...it will look like you did.
Learn to light and learn to get tack sharp images...that will go a long way.
I can almost smell the food mmmm hungry.
me too ! my favorite camera.
Thanks Shooter, just purchased a kit from B&H !

Congrats. Now practice your manual focusing to get full depth of field and sharp focus and you will be well on your way.

The pound cake makes me hungary. Looks like your problem is on the way to being solved. It don't take long to get answers on UHH. Good Luck.
Good food shots, BUT they are making me hungry and I don't need the extra weight.
