Tameron 24-70 vs Nikon 24-70

I wanted to get some opinions on the Tameron 24-70 2.8 vs the Nikon 24-70 2.8. The reviews and DxO say the Tameron has a slight edge. Andy Northrup says it is the better choice also. If I could get some UHH opinions I would appreciate the input.

Personally I've never used a Tamron lens. I do have the Nikon 24-70 2.8 and love it. I've had it for years and have never had any problems using it with a D300, D3,D810 or D4. That's just my opinion. I have heard that Tamron does make a good piece of glass.

They are both great. Future compatibility (with newer bodies), and autofocus performance (Tamron can be a little slower) Makes the Nikon a better choice, but saving $1000 and getting equal or better optical quality makes the Tamron a "no regrets" choice.

But I think you've already figured that out. Oh, and the Tamron uses a larger filter, that the more or less standard 77mm that Nikon uses for most of its pro lenses.

Thanks for the input. I like Nikon glass and all of my others are
Nikon. Would like to save the $ though but not if I have to compromise on image quality. Is Andy Northrup a good source of info?

I made my decision based on what I seen on DxO.
http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compare/Side-by-side/Tamron-SP-24-70mm-F28-Di-VC-USD-Nikon-on-Nikon-D600-versus-24-70mm-F2.8-IF-EX-DG-HSM-Nikon-on-Nikon-D600-versus-AF-S-Nikkor-24-70mm-f-2.8G-ED-on-Nikon-D610___885_834_300_834_175_915

And there was an additional rebate of $100 and the store kicked in another $25. I love that lens (Tamron). You'll love it no matter which you choose.

Tamron is almost $500 dollars cheaper and has stabilization. I chose the Tamron and got the rebate too. Works fine for me.

I do not know the intended use of your lens but saving $1k and having VR seems very acceptable to me with Tamron.
Except for the polarizer I do not use filters as much as I did with film. Even the polarizer is not used as often as I should.
If I were in the market for a 24-70 lens I would not hesitate going Tamron but that is me.

I rented both before buying and went with the Tamron although I have a lot of Nikon glass. The major factors for me were the stabilization and image quality. It's a solid lens and stays on my camera 90% of the time.

I own, and use the Tamron SP 24-70mm VC USM lens. It is a great lens, and resides mainly on my 6D. But, it has found it way on the 7D at times. The glass quality is wonderful, and is a head to head competitor to Canons 24-70mm. The Tamron with VC, is much more versatile. Your keeper rate will be higher just for the VC. The lens comes packed with a image editing disk, which eliminates chromatic distortion. In Lightroom the very same thing is used in the "Lens Calibration" in the Develop mode. The SP lens quality is in par with Canons "L" quality glass.
