I have a DSLR and also need a good mirrorless camera

I have a Nikon D5200 camera with a 55–200mm and a 18–55mm lens. I need a more compact travel camera, such as a mirrorless camera, that takes great pictures and is versatile and around $600 or so max. I shoot outdoors 95% of the time. I shoot landscapes and nature photos as well as candid Street photos. Also like shooting macro, such as flowers and insects. I need one with a wide angle lens, as that is what I would use mostly while traveling. I would probably carry this camera in a hip pouch so it doesn't have to be exactly a pocket camera. I rarely shoot portraits or indoors, and if I do I would use my DSLR or cell phone. I need some expert advice, which I know I will get here! Thanks in advance!

What about a Nikon 1 J4. They also have an available adapter that allows use of any Nikon AF-S lens and retains full autofocus and VR capability with them. And in your price range at $596 with an included 10-30mm lens.

IIRC, the J4 doesn't have a viewfinder.
I don't know if that matters in this case, but many people who use a DSLR want a viewfinder, especially for out-doors work.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting. Do you have one in mind?

If you do require a view-finder, then your problem might be over-constrained (i.e., perhaps you cannot meet all requirements simultaneously). Nikon did have a V1 version which does have an evf, but that model has been discontinued; you might still find one within your price range at some place like Amazon or eBay. The replacement is the V2 version which would push your price limit by $50-$150 depending on where you look.

The Sony Nex-6 might come within your price range, but I don't know how well the appropriate adapter works ... or you could wait and hope that prices and availability move your way ... or maybe someone else here has an even better idea, because I certainly don't know everything!! (I had four windows open checking options as I typed this, but I certainly don't claim to have checked all variations)

The Nikon 1 V3 has a viewfinder.

Actually, it doesn't...it comes with an attachable evf...it seems most outlets are selling it with the evf and battery grip for about $1,200...

Definitely check Fuji. Check out the XT1 or the new X100T. Stay away from the Nikon.

Just announced the Canon SX60 HS. It is a superzoom @ around $550 with some impressive features.

Here is the preview from imaging resource:

Get a Fujifilm X-E1 and a couple of lenses. You won't need the Nikon anymore.

From what I understand, the Nikon 1 system was a market failure...Look at the new Fuji X30

I don't think the X30 is available yet.

The Nikon 1 didn't seem to me to be a serious attempt at a quality camera. They are so tied to the dinosaur SLR concept they are having trouble with seeing the future.

Kind of like Kodak couldn't get digital right.
