Input needed on purchase of new minitor for PP.
My 5 year old LG monitor has some short comings and it's time for a better monitor. I know that Dell has a new one out for @ $2500.00 but I'm not a professional lab. I'd like to keep it under $1000.00. I'll more than likely have to buy on line as I don't think that my local stores will have what I want/need. Thanks for any and all thoughts...Ron
What size screen did you want? Asus and Dell both have good prices on their 27 and 24 high def monitors that were top of the line before the new models came out a month or so ago. I got an ASUS PB278Q for under $500 because the new PB279Q took over the $999 price slot. Dell UltraSharp Premier Color monitors are 470 for 24 inch and about 850 for 27 inch for the H models with 1+billion colors and less for the HMs with 16 million colors.

Thanks Robert, since I'm now using a 19" monitor a 24 looks good but when I pull the plug what's 3 more ". My problem now is if I look down on the monitor it is too light and as I sit down it gets better and if it's late and I sit a little lower it's really dark. I stopped into my lab and looked at all their monitors and it didn't make any difference where you were looking the intensity did not change. My PC is a Dell Studio XPS so I'll call Dell. How do you like the ASUS and is yours a 24 or 27? My wife is into this Photoshop thing too so no problems there!
Dell came out 6 months ago with the 28" 4k monitor screens.I believe they are $ 699.00 at the moment. They had a deal getting a 25% discount for a second monitor. I got 2 because of the discount on the second one and they are absolutely fantastic. I have two 30" dells and they are great but no comparison with the 4K. The one you look at is the higher refresh rate. These do have a lower refresh rate and wouldn't be good for gamers but for photo viewing and editing I give it 5 stars. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks, now that I'm looking I need to find out what Pixel Pitch is and how it will effect the image. I will check out the 28' 4k. I will be gone for a few hours as we will watch the Ravens play tonight. I grew up watching "Johny U" in old Memorial Stadium .
I think what you may be talking about is a monitor that uses IPS technology. I've seen them (can't afford one), but viewing angle makes little or no difference. My head's been under a rock, so there may be a newer, better technology now.
Mine is 27" and it is "a professional graphics" monitor according to the blurbs. It gets 16.7 millions colors More than I can easily see. The new PB279Q gets over a billion, but costs just over twice as much. The Dell U2713H is about $850 and sees the one billion colors while the U2713HM is 799 and 16.7 million colors.
All 4 of them are 4K (2560x1440) resolution

Great monitors... However, just because it CAN display that many colors, doesn't mean it WILL display that many colors.
Specially if you are using a $25 video card. Mine is a bit better than that and has 2GB of its own memory. My computer is 3 years old but was a top of line build by Ibuypower(they build gaming computers mostly)

Don't forget the Samsung monitors. Great bang for the buck and fantastic customer service. Had mine for years and it's color reproduction is practically spot-on. They have their own calibration system built in and I can't see any difference between the monitor's color and my Epson R3000. The prices are much more appealing than a pro monitor unless of course you NEED to HAVE one.
I'd also recommend the nVidia video card of at least a minimum of 2GB of it's own RAM plus a DVI or HDMI interface connection.
One review I read says the ASUS uses a Samsung screen.

Interesting. The i7core machine I built has an Asus motherboard. Like their build quality. (so far)

Thanks to all! It's half time and I am catching up. I'd rather have a monitor that I can calibrate with an outside source as I am doing that every month now. I'll get back to this after the game.
Game, what game? I am reading a book and watch/listening to the news with UHH during commericals.

Well the Baltimore Ravens won, not much of a game. I should have been reading one of my books on Photoshop or retouching, shame on me!
