FALL COLORS`````````````

I'm a newcomer to UHH. Having retired recently, I'm pursuing my hobby, long neglected. I worked as a graphic artist and did some photography - mainly 35 mm B&W film.
Autumn is round the corner. This year I intend to capture some fall colors. Would welcome suggestions re. best locations. My gear includes Nikon D7000, Sigma 24 mm f1.8, Nikon 50 mm f 1.8 and Tamron 90mm macro.

You need to tell us where you are before we can recommend some good locations.

Ditto or just look for trees along a waters edge. Reflections can add a lot of interest. ;)

Sorry I did not mention where I live.
It's Coral Springs Florida - about 40 miles north of Miami.
Am thinking of going to New England. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

New England colors can be spectacular but it can be tricky to hit them at their peak, I have been wrong and driven from Virginia and been disappointed. There are web sites that might help.
You will find some great color in The Smoky Mountain also and it is a lot closer to you.

Time's a wastin!!!

You have about 1-3 weeks to locate, pack and get there. Seasons have been early and short due to climate change. Yes... Mabel... climate change.

There are any number of web sites that have have foliage color reports, maps, anticipated duration, time of peak color and so on.

Don't wait for hoggers to respond to this. Get on the internet and search foliage color maps as one sequence. Some sites cover reports in the various regions of the country. Some sites cover the whole continent by regions. Some sites have foliage cams showing current foliage, just like Department of Transportations highway cams.

Suggest travel plans made soon. Here is one by the weather channel:

http://www.weather.com/activities/driving/fallfoliage/

There are tons of such sights. One is called the Foliage Network

Some very NE spots are peak color right now. You may want to rove through some of the sites and look more mid west and middle East Coast. I'm thinking N & S Carolina.

Otherwise there is always 2015.

Here is a specific location oriented fall color site for Asheville NC. I suspect the severe weather in the very north will play havoc with colors. At the rate it's going we may be talking "Summer Colors" in the next few years.

Here is a site for Asheville:

http://www.exploreasheville.com/seasonal-fun/fall/weekly-fall-forecast-and-color-report/

You may not know this, but in the Midwest, the Sunflower Crops are migrating north, and Whatever state is now using the Sunflower as a state flower may soon be replaced by the state to the north.

May I also suggest you check for fall colors along the length of the "Blue Ridge Parkway".

Welcome to UHH keen.1, glad you joined up. I always went to the Smokies for fall. Used to do a lot of backpacking and camping during that time frame. Enjoy the forum and have fun.
