Someone posted using older Nikon lens from their film cameras on newer DSLRs.
What about using modern Nikon lenses on older SLR.
I still have some T-Max 400, and a N8008. I am wondering if I could use my new 18-200 VR ll on my 8008.
I feel the newer 18-200 would produce sharper images than my older 24-70, or 70-210. I have the 18-200 fine tuned in on my D7000, and would not want to damage or alter the IQ of that lens.
Your thoughts please.

A few things come to mind:
1. The mount is the same - you can physically put it on the camera. I can't say for sure on the tuning, but I doubt it will matter (unless the 8080 has that function).

2. The 18-200 is a DX lens, meant for APS sensors so you will get a lot of vignetting at the wider focal lengths. Think about looking through a tube.

3. Although I'm not familiar with the N8080, specifically (I have a N90s and a much older Nikkormat) you won't be able to shoot in Manual mode since the lens doesn't have an aperture ring - auto and semi-auto only.

Any "G" lenses will not work on the old N8008 as it requires an aperture ring on the lens. The DX lenses will vignette badly on film cameras as they do not project a large enough image circle to cover the film frame.

This isn't exactly true for all older camera bodies. IF the camera has shutter priority, (the N8008 does) or program mode, you don't need an aperture ring - the aperture is set by the body.

Actually you are correct in that "G" lenses will work in Shutter Priority mode, and somewhat on Program, on the N8008. It just will not work in Aperture Priority or Manual modes. So in that context they will "work", just not fully.
If you like guessing games then "G" lenses will even work in S or P on the old N4004 bodies.

I might have to put a G lens on the FT3 just for fun - I'm guessing everything would be at the smallest aperture. I did a series on my N90 with the 18-135G at various focal lengths. It was interesting, at the least.

Will G lenses work in shutter priority on the FA?

I don't see why not. I've looked at the user's manuals for a couple of the G lenses and, though they don't specifically address the FA, the only bodies mentioned that will not work are the F3AF, F-601/N6006, F-501/N2020, and Nikon manual focus cameras (except F-601M/N6000). I guess these do not have SP or P modes.

VR won't work at all on an N8008. not enough focus points. You can turn it on and it will whine like a tired child and accomplish nothing. the F5, F6, F100, N75 and N80 would support VR and most of the newer "G" gelded lenses.

I also have a 70-300 VR which should be good on a 35mm, if it functions.

I wouldn't write off either the 24-70 or the 70-210 as some model were really quite good
