This is a GREAT photo. Soft, warm, gentle - love the colors and the lens flare just adds to the mystique.

Thanks for sharing!!!!!

There are certain circumstances where a little lens flare works...they don't come along often, but I think this is one of those times it adds something to the image

Had you turned your AF back on, I don't think you would have had a nicer photo than this. The flares aren't distracting and the slightly soft focus has a nice appeal. Some times accidental photos are better then those done on purpose.

Thank you. I did use a tripod..I am definatly not steady enough to hold a long exposure ;)

I think it is a great shot and I love the softness. I cannot understand why you used a ND filter unless you wanted a slow shutter speed. When I want to do that during a sunrise or sunset I use my tripod.
I like the shot but it should be even better without the flare.

Hi Allissa,
I don't know for sure.
But I do know that at one place I worked, they put in a very elaborate and expensive close camera circuit to observe the station grounds and equipment.
One of the operators decided to look at the sun.
POOF! goes the camera's sensor. :hunf:
So based on that, I'm kind of shy of sun pictures, myself.
I was hoping maybe others here could shed some experience it.
Although, a DSLR has it's sensor exposed for a far shorter time. So maybe that is an answer?
Hi Allissa, br I don't know for sure. br But I do ... (show quote)

After looking closely, the blurry nature may be the result of movement by the sun, waves and the fisherman. The compositions great and the colors spectacular.

Rules of photography generally work, but they're also to be broken when necessary IMO. I love the lens flare and soft focus. Perfect effect for this scene.

I took this long exposure a few weeks ago at sunrise. Of course after I shot a few using a dark ND filter I realized that I had recomposed but never turned my autofocus back on to refocus. Therefore a few of my shots were going to be poorly focused. So this one I am pretty sure is one of them and of course there is tons of lens flair but turns out that I love this shot...soft and flairy (don't thing that is a word but whatever! lol) and yet it appeals to me so much. Some may not love it but I just wanted to share and curious what others thought. I won't be insulted if you don't love it because that is what makes the world go round...different strokes for different folks! :)
