Problem with cell phone photo

A friend sent this photo to me yesterday. I've been trying to correct it using a gradient filter in Elements 10 with no luck. The photo acts like it's two separate photos. I've managed to make the photo look normal except for the horizontal line across the middle. Any ideas from our PP gurus out there. Maybe I'm missing something simple.

I would do a precise selection of the two segments and try running a curves layer on each side to try and match them. Then when you get them as close as possible, if there is still a visible line you could work on it with the clone tool.

I thought about the clone tool or healing brush. I'll try both options. I've managed to balance the color but still need to do some adjustment. Just have to get rid of the line. Thanks for the input.

Just used the rectangular marquee tool ro make a selection of the damaged area, then used the levels to adjust (mostly Red and some Yellow) then went in with a air brush and clone tool and cleaned up the line left from the Marquee once I deselected. No layers, no burning, just old fashion playing.

You can still see the difference in the blanket. But cell phone photos, are a pain. Sorry but I find them way to touchy in the lighting spectrum.

  My problem is I don't "play" enough. I was trying to over-complicate it. Thanks a bunch. I'm going to "play" later and try to achieve the same results from scratch. It's the only way to learn.

First problem was that it was shot with a cell phone.

I agree but the photo was sent to me. Cell phone cameras are convenient but just not my style. I want a good DSLR or film SLR in my hand and a bag full of lenses and other goodies. Call me old fashioned but it's what I'm comfortable with.
