Very interested in this from the reviews. I have an old 2001FP which blew me away some years ago, but now I want bigger and sharper for Lightroom processing. Any suggestion or comments would be appreciated. Dell wants $999, Amazon less but although I've bought a ton from them I'm worried about problems if I get a lemon.

I own the Dell 2414H monitor. The monitor you're looking at is bigger and better and more expensive, so my thoughts may not help you. That said, I love my 2414H. It's sharp, the colors are vivid, and the design, shared by the 2713 is superb: you can tilt it an any direction, turn it 90° if all your work is in portrait orientation, and it has a well designed panel of USB ports that allow you to organize all your cords and just connect one to your computer. I do enthusiast, amateur photography. I'm picky about color rendition. The software package allows you hone the color but, frankly, I'm very happy with the default settings. I think Dell makes a great product. Hope this helps!

Not sure why you are leery about Amazon. I have purchased low and high price items and never had a problem even when returning because 'It did not fit my needs'. Full refunds, return shipping labels included.

I have the Dell U2713HM. This monitor is simply amazing BUT...

(always one)

You need a good video card to drive it and if you want to use a dual (trebble) monitor system you must have more than 1GB video memory. I had to install a spare video card that I had lying around to use the dual display (now I have three monitors).

Sorry, I didn't address your Amazon concerns. I bought a Nikon D7000 through Amazon a few years ago that was defective on arrival. It was the EASIEST return I've ever made. On their website they have full and easy instructions for return. I didn't even need an RMA. I didn't even need to call and wait on hold. I just sent it back and immediately had my credit card credited. Nothing to it!

I had the u2713h on my final two list. Budget made my choice the ASUS PB278Q. But I have seen evaluations that show the two pretty much a tie for editing and one site gave the ASUS the edge over the DELL. Got the monitor and a Colormunki Display for less than the Dell. So far I like the one I got. I am sure I would like the Dell also. My wife has a 24" Dell ultrasharp that is 7 years old and it is a good monitor so the newer ones must be better.

I have the U2713HM, also. I like it fine. The U2713H is a bit of a different beast, more calibration controls/adjustments and such. Better if you are really into Adobe RGB and high end graphics. Could be a good thing or a pain???
Any how, B&H has it for $791.99 and Newegg $799.99 if you don't want to buy thru an Amazon third party reseller.
You should be able to get 10% off at Dell right now. A discount code window should pop up.
I have no problem running dual monitors with my older average AMD Radeon HD6770 video card with 1GB memory.

Ever since Amazon bowed down to Mr. Brown I do not do business with them anymore.

Who cares about your 'mr. Brown'. The prices are correct, the support is correct and the ease of use is correct.

Same can be said with Adorama and B&H with one difference: "Do not call them during Sabbath." Their prices are sometime higher and and sometime lower than Amazon.

It pays to compare.

It certainly does not do anything to say: "I hate that guy". What I really do not like is emptying my wallet because I cannot get over 'personal feelings' especially when this "someone else s feelings".

Oh, incidentally, please stop reading DPreview. This web site is a subsidiary of Amazon. That would be against your 'principles'.

I see no reason to be leery about Amazon. I do see a reason to be leery about Dell. I feel their product is as good as any, but should you have a problem out of the ordinary, you will find them extremely difficult to deal with.

This monitor is great! Even Macworld did a review on it and raved about it. I'm glad to see someone is actually putting their computer budget to good use. Far too often I hear about users who spend tons of money on their computer only to attach a crappy monitor to it. To me, the MOST important connection you have with your computer is the monitor.

Also, as Ron and others have pointed out, don't stop with a good monitor---buy a good graphics card as well. You won't be sorry.

As far as Amazon is concerned, I buy a LOT from them and have never had a problem. In fact, I recently purchase an Extreme Pro SD card from them, but it got lost or stolen in the mail (US Postal Mail). When I contacted them, they shipped another one immediately at no charge.

Not sure it has anything but basic rgb color space. Don't think it has Adobe rgb.

Amazon has it for 815. It is Adobe RGB 1998 capable. The ergonomics are great. It is heavier than usual. It has USB ports. Don't drive it from an HDMI output.

Wow glad I posted my concerns on UHH... Sounds like to U2713HM would be a better fit for me. I was hoping not to have to go through a color calibration exercise. Someone said a video card upgrade might be in order??? I have an I7 HP with 12 gigs of ram but I'm not aware of what the video card specs might be. One of you U2713HM owners please give me some feedback on video card requirements and reliability. Its great when the better solution costs less. Thanks!

I found this issue ONLY because I wanted a dual display. Otherwise you are fine.

This monitor does not require calibration, at least a first. I'll know more after a couple of months. (been on 24/7 so far and spyder 4 is not changing anything)
