I have been reading the Hogs forums for about 6 months now so I thought I should introduce myself. I started becoming a photography enthusiast about a year and a half ago. Started with a Nikon 3100 and now I am ready to upgrade. Leaning towards the 7100 but not pulling the trigger yet. The Hogs has been very helpful in making my decision.
I think I am in trouble though. Yesterday I went to a wedding and as the beautiful bride was walking down the aisle, I didn't even look at her. Instead I was watching the professional photographer. Same thing happened during the Father/Bride dance. Later I saw the photographers set-up for the wedding Party photos (studio lights, umbrellas, etc) and I went inside the room to check it out. I talked with him for about 30 mins and missed the dinner. Is there hope for me??
Welcome to the Hog, Revet. Short answer, yes in time. The question is how long a time. ;)
Yes, there is hope. When I am working a banquet at a hotel I always talking to photographers and looking at their equipments. You get ideas that way. Good luck!
Welcome after you have lurked around for a while! I've been to several events lately and found the same thing happening. More interest in the photographer, equipment and maybe some free advice than anything else. I also am looking at the D7100 as my next move, but am waiting until after Photokina this month when all rumors point to its successor being released. There should be lots of better deals on new, used or refurbished D7100 bodies very soon. It will be interesting to see whether any improvements to one of the best crop sensor cameras are so compelling that a little extra money will be worth it or if a deal on a D7100 makes more sense.

Yes, I originally was looking at the D7100 vs. a full frame but didn't want to get all new very expensive lenses (especially being a hobbyist and not a Pro). Then last week I see the D300 talked about and the new model coming out (I think the D9300). Being that this type of Nikon is also a cropped frame, how do they differ from the D7100 line??
Greetings Revet, and welcome to the UHH!
Welcome to the Hog Revet, if you missed all that food yes
you are lost, but in a good way, welcome to the dark side.
