Has anyone who owns this lens found a camera bag or backpack that will hold the lens? I have a slingbag but the built-in dividers cannot be arranged.:-(

It is basically the same size as most 300mm f/2.8 lenses, so you should look for bags which fit that. There was a recent topic (Case for Tamron 150-600 Lens?), and the Lowepro Lens Case 13 x 32cm for about $40 was the consensus choice.

If you want a backpack for all your gear, including this lens, the ThinkTank Airport Essentials would work. It isn't cheap ($185), but it is incredibly robust. I have used it for almost 200 shoots in the past two years, and it looks practically new. I have a 300mm f/2.8 in there all the time, and it is very comfortable to carry/wear.

I use the LowePro 13 x 32 when I want it separate from my other gear. It does a great job protecting the lens. When I want to carry it with some other gear or attached to my camera body I use the Tamrac Expedition 6x. Both are very sturdy and both need to have the lens hood in the reverse position to fit well. I highly recommend both!!
