I purchased a 105 mm 2.8 Manual Focus micro Al-s lens to use with my Nikon D7000. New in box and never mounted on a camera. I am a former 35 mm camera, manual focus user and I don't mind the manual focus only limitations, especially with macro photography. I would appreciate any help from manual focus/D 7000 users on the proper settings and tips. Thank you.

Other than having to use A or M exposure you should have no problem.

I believe all Modes and Metering should work; is that correct? Is there a setting to help focus more effectively?

Thank you for the prompt response.

An Ai-s lens will mount and meter on your camera. This may help ....

Regarding focusing help ...... if your D7000 has a focus green dot in the bottom left of the viewfinder it should come on when you're in focus. I had D300 and now D700 and that green dot works well with those cameras with Ai and Ai-s lenses.

Don't know if you've tried this or not, but, for critical focus, esp on a tripod, use live view and zoom in to your focus point. Might not be as useful handheld.

Since the lens is still in the mail I have not tried this. Is the set up difficult?

Check your camera manual for use of AI lenses.

Just hit the live view button on the back of the camera...

You can meter any way you like. When it comes to actually taking the picture, you will not be able to use Auto, Program or Shutter priority if the aperture is set manually on the lens.

Gkarl,

The 105 micro Nikkor AIS lens is compatible with the D7000 with the following caveats:

1. Only use (M) manual or (A) aperture priority mode.
2. Focus manually and use electronic focus assist which is displayed at bottom left in viewfinder data.

The focus assist works very well. It displays an arrow (triangle) pointing left or right when not in focus. Turn the lens barrel to focus in direction of arrow. When you achieve focus, the arrow changes to a green dot confirming focus.

I use a few great AIS lenses with my D7000 as well as AF lenses with equal success. You will enjoy the 105. It's a very sharp lens. Good luck.
