Never in the history of the United States

Yea, idaholover, let's keep the obesity rate up in our children....
I'm sure if Laura Bush had supported this you would have no problem with it.

I'm not in favor of the Federal government getting involved in any of our personal affairs. Who needs a PTA, school board, city counsel, or state government if the Federal government is going to be the deciding arbiter on everything! This is a perfect example of why we should get rid of the US Dept. of Education.

Laura Bush taught kids how to read, she didn't tell every body what to eat! But now that her, Moochelle's, husband has total control of your health care I guess she can tell us what to eat and drink and anything else that health care might pertain to.

So you ARE in favor of the government getting involved.

She was a school librarian. Not sure how much harm can be done at that level. And BTW, in case you weren't aware there are different levels of government the local being most important to the community. Also there is such a thing as the 10th Amendment that supposedly protects the states from the Federal government. The Founders saw the Fed as a necessary evil and wanted it limited as much as possible. I am for small government not big government.

But you stated, by inference, that you are OK with the Presidents wife teaching school children (reading).
So, why are you now against the Presidents wife teaching school children (eating properly)?

That's my question too. I can't see how teaching healthy eating habits can be considered a bad thing. Or having good food ( vs junk food) on the menu is a bad thing. And, yes, kids will complain they don't have their junk food, that's why they are called children....

Moochelle is not teaching a damn thing to anyone. She's dictating to ALL what should be served. Period.
The hell with the kids...let them eat cake and fries and nachos and greasy burgers.
I mean who cares, they only are our future....we can deal with the expense of their health problems later...right...
It's a real stretch to get from TEACHING children about nutrition and MANDATING what they are allowed to eat. These "guidelines" even apply to what they bring from home. BeeEss.

I can understand removing a lot of the fattening snacks, but how about replacing them with things like granola bars and apples?
As far as lunches, kids actually need carbs for energy just to get through the day. A piece of pizza is not that bad for lunch. Replacing all of these items with what a woman might eat to remain "thin" is not healthy. However, physical education and individual sports should be encouraged. Regular physical activity can eliminate much of that obesity. Why not encourage more intramural activity such as basketball, volleyball, tennis, and softball leagues? Open up the gyms when available for activity: badminton, volleyball, basketball, etc. Note: When you're involved in physical activity you won't be at home in front of the tv snacking down!!

They are their future, not our future. We will be dead. When they come into their own they will make changes that they feel will be best for them, just as we had done for ourselves.
What is this food that they are trying to force upon "our" kids? Is it really food. I had chicken when I went to school, not processed soy bean chicken. We ate real beans & rice, Greens, breads (white & corn bread), mashed potato with gravy (real potato's), salads, fish sticks, dressing, jello and mix fruits, milk. You know, the real food groups that they say is bad for us now. We ate our food and went out to play and exercise. What ever happen to PE? The food was good and our activity's build our body's.
We did not have pizza or chicken nuggets.

I think the government leveraging school districts and conducting social engineering with funding is a bad thing.
