I would like to find a digital camera with a 35mm or 50mm prime lens, like the Sony RX1 and Leica, but for a lot less money.

Fuji X100s

or the Fuji X1 Pro.

or just buy a DSLR (full-frame or APS-C) or mirrorless body (Sony, Olympus or Panasonic) and add the prime of your choice.

Gotcha.
That would be nice...
(You could just get bigger pockets.)

I have a friend who raves about his Sigma DP2M Merrill .
Never seen anything shot with it but he's a pro who shoots with Canon 1D (and Fuji X100).

The Sigma DP1, DP2 and DP3 Merrill cameras are all the same camera, but each has a different focal length lens on it:
DP1, 19mm
DP2, 30mm
DP3, 50mm
And all have a stated 1.5X crop factor.
They are all the same price also at $799.95.

Thanks.
Sigma makes some quirky stuff (and some great lenses), but these are interesting.
No eye-level viewfinder would kill it for me.

Check out the Olympus TG-3. Its shockproof smashproof and waterproof to 50ft. It has built in focus stacking, it's great for macro, it even has an optional snap in ring flash for macro. It'll fit in your pocket and you can get it for right around 300.00

OOPs! sorry not a prime lens: 4.5-18 mm (35 mm equivalent: 25-100 mm)

How about a Nikon 1 camera with a prime lens? The V3 isn't packaged the way you want, but another model might work for you?

Pocketable best choice Sony RX100 III. I have the first one
and II. Terrific Zeiss zoom lens 1.8 I--28-100mm.
This camera will amaze you. Beware I think the III changed
the zoom 24-70mm I think.
Downsize no viewfinder. Option is the NEX series with interchangeable lens. I have NEX 7 with viewfinder and can put any lens I want. Great metabones adaptors like Speedbooster
makes this a full frame and you can put any Nikon lens on it.
Sony has smallish lens that work great with this camera. The Sony a7 series has made the NEX line a great buy. All these cameras are made of heavy metal an are a pleasure to hold.
Good luck.

Actually, the latest version, the Sony RX100 III, has a eye-level pop-up viewfinder.
Pretty cool feature.
It's been described as the pocket companion for Nikon D800 users.
It's still a small-sensored camera compared to full frame, but looks like it manages to get very good image quality.

Or the new Sony A5100 @ $550 and a 35mm 1.8 for $450. They also have a 30mm 3.5 for $253.

I think it is currently pre-order with an early September release date.

If you're looking for a small economical version of such a rig, you can get a refurb Oly EPM2 (same sensor as the EM5) for between $200-$300 and add a 17 mm (35 equiv) pancake prime for from $150-$250, or some other prime instead. My daughter in law uses this little outfit all the time, just drops it in her purse and doesn't even notice the size/weight. It takes great photos.

Thanks for the heads-up I forgot that the new RX100 III
has a pop-up viewfinder. I will add that having the Sony nex 7
and now the a7s the OLED viewfinder is terrific for its small size.
These cameras that are mirror less have solved the DSLR camera with only a live view to visualize a major problem.
Thanks for the correction.
