Im wanting to upgrade from a Easyshare Kodak z981. I found a Olympus evolt 500 in my price range. My main goal for now is getting things from distance closer to me and it not to hard to use or learn. Any thoughts from anyone would be helpful. Thanks...

The olympus evolt 500 was a good basic camera in its day but is getting pretty outdated. If you share what your budget is, we might be able to tell you if it's worth what they're asking or if there are other option you might consider.

That is too much for that camera. Any lenses included? If so, which?

The newer micro four thirds cameras are faster focusing and have 16 megapixel sensors. That's twice the pixels as the eVolt 500.

Olympus four thirds DSLRs are great cameras, they are just a bit old now a days. The PEN system is in your price range and if you buy reconditioned you can save even more. The link shows a great deal and it comes with two lenses.

If you've just gotta have a DSLR style camera, I'm sure you can find an Olympus e system camera for much less than the ones you're looking at.

The 620 is better than the 500, still old style but a decent camera. With a two lens kit, the prices are more understandable. You can put together a similar kit from KEH (620+14-42+40-150) for about $290. If there's some reason you have to buy only from Amazon (maybe you have a credit or gift card?) say so, so we won't be suggesting other places to shop.

If you have specific things you want to do, and can share that, others may chime in with other options.

The poster who recommended a refurbished PEN camera was right, they're quite reasonable, but they do not have a viewfinder, you shoot off the screen on the back and some people don't like this. You mentioned wanting to "bring things up closer" - if you'll tell a bit more about that, we can figure out more specifically what might work for you.

My first Digital SLR was an E-Volt 500 It came with 2 lenses and cost be just under $800. I still use it occasionally, although I have upgraded to a Nikon.

It was a great camera and 1/3 the cost of the then current Nikon D70 with one lens. The Olympus was 8mp vs 5.1mp

I think a price between $200 - $300 would be fair. If you don't need the Megapixels and don't plan on enlargements greater than 11x14

If that does not include the kit-lenses, that price is too high for that camera. I can't remember off-hand which two lenses came with the camera originally, but there were two, and the complete package at the time was around $700 if I remember correctly (this would have been around Christmas 2006).
The two lenses included were a 14-45mm and 40-150mm if I remember correctly.

Thanks Everyone for the tips. I looked into everything you guys told me about. I going to go look at some Pen E PM2 kits or maybe a upgrade up from that. I will hold the cameras in my hand to get the feel of them. I do have small hands. Thanks again <3

The EPM2 is a great start, it has the same excellent Sony-built sensor as the EM5. My daughter in law has this kit and takes excellent photos with it.

You can get an E-520 with kit lens (14-42mm) for around $200, and a 40-150mm lens for as little as $50. Much better camera, and currently the best Olympus that is being dumped for small money. The E-30, E-620, and E-5 are all still selling for premium dollars.
