Last night we went to a baseball game. I didn't take a "real" camera because the weather was supposed to be marginal and it was late with low light anyhow. Turns out the weather was ok and there was a number of things that could have been photographically interesting. One is shown below, one of the clowns that was present.

This photo was taken with my Samsung Galaxy S5. Yes, the hair is mush and the depth of field is infinite but IMO quite acceptable for documentaries, as part of a series of this and other games, and in general as a substitute for a p&s. Just think, I always have it with me and doesn't that make it the best camera (sometimes)? Yes, I know it is not a substitute for e real camera but...

Your thoughts?

Yes, it is very acceptable. As good as the average digital ten years ago. I like it.

My opinion is the S5 is exceptional and like said you nearly always have it with you. try to Google up a question on your DSLR>

A cell phone camera is better than no camera.

Very good shot. If you want to see what can be accomplished with a cellphone (his is an Iphone and doesn't appear to have the IQ of your S5) then checkout this gallery by a professional photographer that I know:

I was quite surprised at what he could do with an Iphone.

Great photo from a camera phone. You probably wouldn't make a 16x20 for wall hanging from this one anyway. And, for a picture for a photo album to remember what you did on vacation or email to your friends, this one is very acceptable. Have a GREAT DAY!

You'd be surprised (or not) how much news video is shot on cell phone cameras.
Your picture looks very good.
If things continue, pretty soon your cell phone may surpass your current camera gear. Then upgrade comes to mind.
It's a vicious circle.

A couple of weeks ago I had an opportunity to talk to a Nikon rep who was in town. During the conversation the subject of phone cameras arose. He stated that point & shoot cameras will soon be a thing of the past, since phone camera technology is catching up fast. To support his statement he said Nikon recently laid off several (15, I think) marketing personnel in the CoolPix department.

Become familiar with what the phone camera can and cannot do, understand how to work within those limitations, and you will have plenty of nice images.

I own some rather expensive equipment but I will not diminish the importance of capturing the moment with any device. Most people own cell phones and use them on most occasions instead of higher end camera and I have no problem with that although I still find it odd viewing someone capturing an image with an ipad. It just seems unnatural.

I just printed this to 8X10 and it looks more than acceptable for the purpose. No noise is evident and there is no detail to speak of in the hair and grass. At the same time neither the hair nor the grass have that plasticy look of something that has too strong noise removal applied. Makes me wonder what processing Samsung is doing.

Haydon,
Would that be considered "Full Framed"?

While visiting Denali National Park we went to the NPS video.
Right in front of us was a family from India. Then the rude SOB held up his EyePad to video the video being shown.
And the rude traveler wouldn't put it down.
So I went and got a ranger, and she yanked this A'hole to the side and made him stay there.
He's lucky I didn't slap his EyePad to the floor.

But hey... I'm just one of those rude Americans. KMA!
