I don't know if this will help you or not, but I used the manual focus on the lens first and then hold down the shutter button half way to continue focus and then shoot. I had put a post up on this recently. Hope that helps. So now I always manual focus on something first and then shoot.

I would suggest checking out the AF Fine Tune feature of your D7000, the lens may need to be tuned to your body for optimum results.

That's my next project. One other owner said he had to adjust a bit. I'll do it on a similar subject not moving at adjust by negative 5's to -20 and then positive 5's to +20 and check them out.

Thanks for all the comments folks.

Just find a yardstick, place it at 45 degrees to the lens at around 30 feet away. Shoot at 600mm and wide open with spot AF on the very center of the yardstick. A close look at the image will show whether or not the lens is back-focusing or front-focusing and adjustments are very easy to make from there. You should have a balanced DOF. (Meaning that if you focus on 18", then your DOF should have 17" to 19" well in focus)

Info from EXIF was F9 and shutter 1250th

Maybe another test on varying F stops to find sweet spot?

Probably real close. I don't have the Tamron I have the Sigma 150-500mm and the sweet spot is f8.

Not real clear. You meant forces on the 18" mark on the ruler.

My opinion would be yes.
I think you might be able to get it sharper.

I'm watching for anything to do with a Tamron 150-600mm because I have one on back order. :?

Not sure how I can make that statement any clearer.

No disrespect meant. Just the way my simple mind works.
