Spoiler Alert - Dead Juvenile Black Widow

My husband has COPD and doctors say he probably wouldn't survive a black widow spider bite, hence, when I find a BW web, I wait till she comes out after dark and spray her dead. I do appreciate the colorful variations in the juveniles, so took these shots. Also, for those that may have not seen one of their webs before, I took the web shot. Don't know if the debris has tiny dead spiders on it or not. I didn't get a very good shot.

We can all survive without Black Widows, as there are many more beneficial spiders, which are nowhere near as dangerous.
In Southern California Black Widows are being replaced by Brown Widows, which are less aggressive, with shorter fangs, making them much less of a danger.

Interesting. Are they killing off the Black Widows?

OK Scott. Now I'm really worried about you. :) After newborns hatched, did you observe them eating each other? And if so, about how many survived and parachuted to new locations. Did you allow them to live in their "landing spots"? I've only killed 3 this year, but last year killed about 18 little ones in a one week period.

After they hatched & I got some pics, I took them out in the woods & let them go.

I would have enjoyed seeing you do that... from a distance. Good job.
