Monochrome Sunset

A few years old this one.
I was taking pics of a quite spectacular sky, but the hills were silhouetted and made the images quite bland. I then took some using on camera fill in flash. I was pleased with the result and tried monochrome. Not much PP applied. The burnt out sun is in the original.
Would be pleased to learn how to improve similar shots in future.

An interesting image if I don't over-think it....but I'm continually and significantly distracted by the incongruity of the distant sunset and the frontal illumination of the foreground grasses.
Such are the wages of slavery to logic!

Thank you for your very interesting comments.
The incongruity of a scene is one that gets me on occasions. I don't try to improve on nature, that would be foolish in the extreme, but sometimes balance exposure to be more representative of what the eye sees. If I were viewing a sunset from the house across the garden, then I would have foreground lighting and background lighting. Not sure the camera would see the same scene as my eye. Not making excuses just trying to explain my shortcomings.
Thanks again.

I had no intent to note a "shortcoming"...other, perhaps, than my own for my slavery to logic. As photographers we deal with any and all aspects of light, even if differently propogated, reflected, and refracted. i should also have noted, indeed, meant to..that the very illogical source of frontal lighting was the source of the very real impact the image has...even on me!

Hi Nairiam. I am sorry, but this one just doesn't grab me. I find the grass and the trees in the foreground to be blocking elements to the fields beyond and the sunrise. The whole image looks to be rather soft. I truly do not understand why a sunset would be rendered in B&W unless there was something in the photograph that, because of it's rich textures and tones, would warrant a B&W. The thing that makes sunsets so spectacular is their color, and even when they are done in color they can be rather boring without an interesting lead in. My opinion .. but there you have it.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I do appreciate your input. I have difficulty "seeing" black and white. Maybe one day !!

I'm a big fan of black & white and some parts of this picture, the clouds, are good. The foreground looks like a flash went off making the grass the subject instead of the sky. The middle sky is not exposed correctly causing the center portion to be almost pure white. You have to expose for the brightest portion of the scene. Having the brightest piece of sky dead center is not the best composition. Fortunately, sunsets happen every day, so you have plenty of chances to practice this type of shot. Thanks for sharing.
