I just purchased the 17-55 for my 7100. I would like to know the situations this lens is best suited for

Fantastic lens, the one I keep on my D7100 most of the time (I assume you're referring to the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8). Works great in low light, AF is lightning fast, sharp pictures at all focal lengths, and balances very well on the D7100 imo. If what you are shooting falls in that focal range you will be very pleased with it.

Best DX zoom lens Nikon has, and priced as such.
It was made back when Nikon didn't have any full-frame cameras.
It's a professional quality lens made to cover the DX format.
(Not recommended, but from about 24mm up, the image will fill a full-frame sensor)

It's a pro-level "mid-range" zoom. It is very likely the second-best lens for almost any situation. Whether it suits you depends on what sorts of things you like to photograph.

Thanks for the response. I really like the hedgehog, and it is a Nikon lens. Pictures to follow
