Yes the 24-1200 zoom is good, & I've had a ball with it for the last 6 months, I've gotten a good view of the L.A. skyline, my church functions, where i'm across the rectory taking pictures of the choir, or the pastor, cant wait to see the zoom on the proposed SX60, on if if will be the same or more zoom power.

Lots of happy SX50 users on UHH, including me :) Bridge cameras are a wonderful alternative for those not wanting to spend a lot of money or carry a lot of weight.

We have seed many great ones from Lindas SX50-will you download a few of yours. Thanks ps-reading about your bridge camera on UHH sometimes makes me think I made a mistake with a DSLR.

X50 simply means that the maximum zoom is 50 times bigger than the minimum zoom (1200 divided by 24 = 50). It appears that the SX60 will still be 1200mm, but will be slightly wider at 20mm (changed from 24mm)--not enough to make any real difference. The SX50 is a great little camera & a lot of bang for the buck. :-)

Are you sure that is the reason for the name? Wasn't the first on in the series a X10, followed by the X20, followed by the X30, followed by the X40 followed by the X50. Did their zoom ratios match the numbers in the names?

I bought the X10 and returned it. It was not good at all. I now have the X30 and really like it. Been very tempted to get the X50 but been waiting for the X60. I suspect it might have some refinements but not expecting it to extend the zoom to a 60 ratio. I'd be very surprised if that can be done and still maintain the quality found in the X50. But, it sure would be great to be wrong about that.

I walked into Sam's Club the other day and they had a sign by the SX50 that said "last one". It was priced originally at $359 and I purchased this one for $288. It was the display model but it works perfect - I thought it was a good buy!

I am correct. As each new model increased the 'X' number, it also increased the zoom range. The number is the zoom ratio (range) & has nothing to do with the size (length) of the zoom. Some people falsely believe that X50 'magnifies' by 50, as 8X30 binoculars magnify by 8. Actually, when on 1,200mm, the SX50 magnifies about the same as 24 power binoculars. Earl.
