I took this Bee photo with my Canon 60D and Tamron 150-600mm lens at 600mm. The Bee was approximately 10-12 feet away... I originally went out to take bird photos but since the birds were not showing themselves I photographed this Bee which I noticed close by...

Pretty darn close to macro proportions. Nice detail, but a bit over-sharpened.

Thanks Nikonian72. I appreciate your comments.
Yes I may have over "Topazed" it a little to get rid of some background grain... I shot it handheld and used a higher ISO rating so I could stop the lens down more to increase the DoF.

Beautiful shot Bruce. I would have thought you used a nice macro lens for the shot.

I would say an exceptional close up but not macro as at 1:1 you don't have that much depth of field.

I read a number of reviews of the "Bigron" a few weeks ago. I thought the following review was well worth reading. It compares features and costs to other similar lens. The reviewer states he does not believe much in "lab tests" but wants to see how lenses work in the field. The large images in the review are certainly worth a look. Sorry, I can't seem to make the link live but cut and past will work if interested:

Back to this post. That is a pretty interesting photo; it certainly could pass for having been taken with a macro. It's hard to get a really good focus when so much zoom is used, especially on a live moving creature!

I like that bee shot Bruce. Next time I take a large lens into the woods, I am going to have to try long distance bugs. Nice DOF on such a small critter, and beautiful color and mood.

It's just the versatility of the Tamron 150-600mm.

I asked the question about closeup or macro since the photo of the "Bee" is larger than life. maybe it is a pseudo-macro effect.
