Hi, I have a Macbook Pro running Mavericks and my iCloud Mail is stuck. I cannot open it, so cannot run the latest update. To make things even worse, for some reason, I cannot connect to the internet on that computer.

Does anyone know how to get iCloud Mail to open? TIA

Try booting in safe mode- start your computer and when you hear the chime hold down the shift key until you see "safe boot" or something similar flash on the screen. Startup will be longer than usual, as diagnostics will be running. Also, no external programs will load. Once the computer has fully booted into safe mode you can do a regular restart, which will bring back all your other programs. I am assuming this was not caused by something you just downloaded from the internet or from a program given to you by a friend on a flash drive?

No, I was unable to open mail for a few days but rarely use that mail. Then yesterday, I was unable to get on the internet.

Thank you for your advice, I'll try that.

I just tried it and cannot close mail so it will not let me boot up in safe mode.

I'm calling Apple on Monday, I have their support, want to check back and see what they told me? Did you update?

Donna, please post your answer from Apple, as I have also had problems with Mail, however, I would force the program to quit in Finder.

You should be able to Force Quit mail-Click on the white box below the mail logo at the bottom of your desktop, a menu should appear with Forcequit as an option. Select it. then do a safe boot to repair your computer, then a restart.

dljen, the problem does not stop there, it is ongoing, they have already tried to fix it, with no success, your problem is but a part of it, mavericks mail just needs to be replaced full stop, reinstall the old system even, nothing works properly on the new, you delete mail, it goes to drafts, etc, this is a worldwide problem, do not let them tell you otherwise.

I was unable to force quit mail. A complete reinstall? Wow, this is going to cost Apple a chunk of change. They're coming out with something this fall aren't they? My one MBP is completely down, I've another on order but it will be Mavericks.

Use Force Quit in the sub menu under the apple logo at the top left of the screen to get out of mail.

Thank you, Bob, I will.

OnEdit: I did what you said, Bob, and now on my "bad" computer now. I updated it and there is no mail on my dock now which is ok since I don't use iCloud. It's nice to have my internet back.

Thank you all very much, you've earned the name, "MacGeek." Wear it proudly! :)
