I have never seen this roof design before, of course that's not saying much! The home is located in Athena, Oregon. I was just passing through and it caught my eye, so I took a couple shots at it.

Does anyone have any idea what the roof design is called?

Thanks, Richard

Strange! Looks like a Gingerbread house. They may have been trying to emulate the look of a thatched roof. ..... Coot

Strange! I have never seen anything like that before.
With the closer view, it looks like it might be what is called "Cedar Shake".
However, I have never seen any laid out in that type of pattern. Also the ridges are capped with shingles that are "formed in a curve", like the overhang around the window dormers.
You should go by the house and ask the owner!

I did a roofing job once where the shingles were wrapped around the facia and fastened underneath. The boss called it a "Dutch wrap", but I have never seen that type of roof. Fascinating.

I believe the roof is called a "Storybook Roof". Very interesting and I'll bet it was very expense to put on.

Yep, I think you would call that, a very expensive roof. Interesting though.

You're right about the thatch roof look! I'm a retired architect and I did one of those, over 50 years ago. It was asphalt shingles in that look. It was only about 2500 square-foot house at that time, and it turned out okay. If I can find some pictures, I'll post them.

I once lived in a house with a very similar roof. The House was called The Storybook House. It is a cedar planked roof called an icing design. Very expensive to fix and replace
