A party going on... I think...
This activity is just below a new rose bud. I am not sure if the critters are putting down what I think are eggs on shafts or having lunch on them or just getting together for an afternoon chat. looks to be three species of critters. None of these seem to be the guilty parties who have been cutting the bud stems on this particular rose bush. I will keep looking till I find the guilty parties.
Only male aphids have wings. Female aphids are wingless, and give live birth. You photo is of one male, one female and several immature nymphs. They are true bugs who suck sap from the plant. No chewing mouth parts, only a proboscis, which is quite obvious on the male.
I do not recognize the little beads on stalks.
Thanks Douglass, it seems I recorded a family portrait. The egg things are a mystery. You would think eggs would be secreted or place in a protected area and not on the end of stalks. Also spread out like that does not make sense. I will need to fake some shots of other roses in case this is some plant feature. JB
