These were already named. I do name the ones I believe to have created, but most are familiar patterns.
Nicely tied and photographed. Are these steelhead flies?
Thanks. The original spey fly was tied in Scotland for salmon fishing along the River Spey. When they came to this part of the world (America) they were used for salmon along the eastern coast. Then somewhere along the line, somebody decided to try them for Pacific steelhead and found they worked quite well. I do believe this particular pattern was originally tied for steelhead.
There are no salmon or steelhead where I live, only trout, but I like tying them. I don't know if they would work for the trout here or not. I don't tie them for fishing. Just to look at.
