That's how I've always cleaned my camera. And my laptop.
Have to be sure to use "camera and lens soap"

So now you have an underwater camera. Should we worry that it was a Canon, not a Nikon?
I tried that on my Nikon and it stopped working after cleaning. This must be a Canon thing and not for Nikons. Hmmm!
The same list of how to clean cameras (and other electronics) also lists leaving in the bed of a pickup in the car wash, throwing the whole camera bag in one of those large washing machines for sleeping bags, high pressure hose, putting in in the hot tub/spa and turning on all the jets and a few others.
I suspect the list was made up by a camera repairman who needed more business. Or his brother-in-law who owns a camera/electronics shop.
You can tell it was effective, because there were flecks of dirt floating in the basin at the end.
There was a sequel on drying using a high pressure air hose. Paper towels would scratch the sensor.
