Earlier today I posted a question that I can't find now for this follow up. I asked how to move only one side of free transform without the opposite side moving in the same direction with it. I was advised not to us free transform but to use transform + skew. Didin't work. Nor did any of the other choices in "transform". Any ideas? Thanks.

Depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to move only the selection see #1. If you want to move one side of the photo under the selection see #2.
1. Moving the selection only. Make your selection, then go: Select > Transform Selection > grab the little handle in the middle of the side and push or pull to the desired position.
2. Moving the photo with the selection. Make selection, then go : Edit > Free Transform (or CNTRL T), again grab the little handle in the middle of the side and push or pull to the desired position.

You must first click on Select>Select All. Then click Edit>Transform>Skew. You will now see the anchor points and you can move one side only if you wish.
I think the Transform > Distort option might do what you want.
