I finally broke down and joined the PS Creative Cloud. I also own Lightroom but want to get Photoshop as well. I got Photoshop CC. Is this the same as a stand alone Photoshop program? I'm confused about all the different versions. I have a 30 day trial subscription so am I getting a good deal at $9.99 per month for just Photoshop CC? Appreciate any clarification someone can offer.

CC is the upgrade of its predecessors. CC install does not uninstall previous versions so some folks can have as many versions as they want...
CS#, CC and now CC 2014. You can run only one version at a time.

And yes, it is a good deal compared the one time registration price that existed before as well as instant update when something new comes out.

In my opinion it is a GREAT deal....You should end up with CC plus CC(2014), meaning two programs installed and useable on your disk.

Yes, it is the upgrade, but it does leave CC on your disk and useable - even though you get less if you elect to use it.

Hmmm... I ended up with CC and CC (2014), but new users signing up should only get CC (2014)

So if you get less, what is the point of keeping it?
I am puzzled here.

Right you are! I guess disk space is cheap... ;)

Before you do that....
If you use add-ons or plugins transfer them manually to 2014 as the direct install does not work in CC 2014.

What you're forgetting, is that LightRoom 5.x is also included for the $9.99/mo. And several other programs I, myself, don't have any interest in.

Not sure where you got that impression. We all spoke about CC AND LR including the op. That you do not use all that is included does not surprise me, few do, including me. It is a shame really as there are some real goodies in there but learning them? Naw, not for me, not at the moment.

Photoshop CC2014 is like CS6 on steroids. It is faster, better, more stable, and has new tools that are not available in CS6, which is the last stand alone version you might be able to still get. Lightroom is now in version 5.6 and both work very well together.

When you subscribe to CC, if you do the Photographer's bundle of CC/LR, you get the latest and greatest of both software versions. CC was recently substantially recoded and released as CC2014, which eliminated some seldom used tools (oil paint filter for one), and improved the Mercury Graphics Engine for faster processing and better memory management. There are other improvements such as better content aware functionality and perspective warp, camera shake filter, better smart sharpen, etc etc that you can read about here:

If you use plugins that only run in CC, the oil paint filter, mini bridge and other flash-based plugins, etc, you will want to keep CC on the machine even if you primarily use CC2014
