Well, I liked Erv's moon shot so well, that I set my camera to manual, ISO 400, 1/2500 sec, F6.3 and I guess I have a lot to learn about my D5100. In the first one, the camera changed to ISO 200, 1/200 sec and I forgot to change the F stop from 5.6 to 6.3 and at the full extension of 300 mm.

After I changed some camera settings, and manual set to ISO 400, 1/1250 sec., F/6.3 the 2nd shot as I set it, and to the full extension of 300 mm.

Camera changed the 3rd shot to 1/3200 sec., but changed the telephoto to 220 mm., as I was told that the zoom is sharper when not set to full extension.

Thank you wetaft. I really do admire Erv's moon shots and I tried to duplicate his settings but it just didn't work out for me. There's something I'm not setting correctly in my camera. I like #1 the best, so that's what I think I'm going to use in the future.

Nice captures. But Is that shutter speed 1/3200 sec, not 1/320th? I don't think you'd get an image at 1/3200th.

Thank you dj, I appreciate your comments. But that's what the ExIF data said on the photo. And I didn't set it at that speed. I set it for 1/2500.

Thanks Angela. That's about the only thing around here I can shoot, when the neighbors are not using their firepits. I lucked out last night. But I would try different settings. I had to do a lot in pp to get to what I posted. Someone had posted a website on UH for shooting the moon. I'll have to go back and try to find it. And from now on I'm not going to be afraid to use my zoom to the fullest extension. I liked the 300 mm one better than the ones at 220 mm. Good luck on your moon shots. We're going to have a nice weekend for shooting it.
