FOR THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS I'VE HEARD BAD & GOOD ABOUT THE SX 50, IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS I'LL GIVE MY 2 CENTS ON THE SX50, CAUSE I BOUGHT ON FROM SAMY'S CAMERA HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 6 MONTHS AGO.
Welcome aboard. I'm a Nikon shooter, but I am seriously considering an SX-50 as a backup camera, just in case something happens when I'm on an African safari or doing some other special shoot where having no camera at all would be a disaster. I'm leaning towards something like a Nikon P500 or P600 superzoom and would like to hear your good and bad on the SX-50. I'm interested in a good burst rate for when wildlife takes you by surprise and the ability to shoot RAW, I haven't seen that in a sub-$1000 superzoom bridge camera.

Mr PC, the link is to a review on the Canon SX50. Like you, I'm also a Nikon shooter but also have a Canon SX50 which I really like. You just have to keep in mind that it has a smaller sensor but the zoom is outstanding.

I bought the SX50 for a trip to Africa last February. Loved the size and weight of the camera and I didnt have to take extra lenses. I took a monopod and used it every day. Some of the zoom shots definitely need support. I shoot a lot in shutter priority. Below is a shot that I took at some distance from the jeep. I usually boost the color in PP.

Great shot, neco. Best evidence of how the SX50 works in Africa. If MR PC chooses to get an SX50 for his trip to Africa is to get some extra batteries.

Believe me, once you have learned how to use it you will be amazed. It is a great little camera and also makes very good videos. :-D
