First..thanks to everyone who helped me figure out how to attach these pictures. At least I hope they're attached. I received my camera Friday and went out Saturday and took a few pictures. These were taken in aperture priority. Not much thought given to composition..just wanted make something happen! I know I have a lot to learn but the technology packed into this really small package is truly amazing. Critiques are MOST welcome. Thanks.
Gene

Thank you. But I need criticism to learn! I took a picture of my wife and every pore, wrinkle, blemish...they all showed with this camera. She told me to delete it. I saved it to my blackmail file

Gene. we see the pics. Glad to see the post. The next thing is composition. What do you want to stand out. These are nice but don't show a CENTRAL subject. They are busy with a LOT of things going on. I am led to pick out what I think you wanted to show. GIVE us a theme or subject.

Congratulations on your new camera. This new "toy" is really a compact camera on steroids. With the new 1.8 Zeiss you can clearly see you have something more than a point and shoot camera. Looking at the download I see there is still nice shadow detail in the darker areas like the tree trunk. With these sunny conditions that would not even be possible not too long ago.Like any digital camera be careful with the highlights that they don't blow out (clipped) I prefer to set it at 1/3 of a stop less and bring the shadows back a little bit in PP if needed. What aperture did you have it set? I don't own this camera but I think it also has focus peaking. If you have the time to shoot your picture check out this feature.

Well, I have to admit I was just kind of pointing and shooting with nothing much in mind. I have been playing with a bit more since these were taken and now its time be a bit more serious. I do have some comprehension of composition from my 35mm days but I need to relearn using the digital technology. I mean looking through a
viewfinder on such a small camera is mind boggling. Once I have a better understanding of the settings and what the camera's capabilities are, I'll post some more and continue my education here on the UHH!

THanks

Photo #3 is not a picture worth 1000 words, rather it is a picture worth a 1000 pictures with in one... you could crop out many individual stories from this one photo.

Students (HS 9-12) know that I am a photographer and ask to see photos.. I usually carry a few 8x10s... one student said what would apply to #3... Mr. P, your photos look weird, they are so clear.

Like I said I was trying to see which button to push to make a picture happen! Didn't give much thought to composition but yes..there is a lot going on. Once I get my arms around the camera operationally then I'll start looking at post processing. But for now I'll focus n coming up with the best picture I can get directly out of the camera. Thanks for the input!

What I was saying... the clarity is fantastic... the DOF astounding... great camera. The use of the "weird" comment was stating that the young generation is not use to seeing the crispness of a good camera... they live with a 3" viewing world with questionable quality... and are astounded by the "shock and awe" of a photo like the one you have shown.

Regarding composition, within this one shot, I look and consider this to be a fine example of street photography. So many stories going on at one time; the viewer is there living in that moment of time. This one photo is a chapter in a book. I was, clumsy as I am at times, stating that with the out put of this fine camera you could crop out many photos; many cameras lose clarity with crop, this one may well be an exception.

Years ago there was a movie called "Blow Up" in which a guy took a photo of someone and in the back ground there was a murder going on. He could see it clearly in the "blow up" of that photo. No, did not see a murder in your photo... I saw sharp detail and nuances of lighting. You chose a great camera, congratulations.
