can this photograph be considered a people category?

I would appreciate your opinion if this photograph is considered a people shot. I would like to enter it in a local photo contest under people. I think it is a people shot framed by motorcycles, building, and road. My wife thinks I may be eliminated be cause it doesn't show enough people. I would also appreciate your comment and critique regarding the picture itself. Thanks for your help.

If it is people category, then people should be the main subject of the photo. As I see it, the motorcycles are the main subject. I have to really look to see the people. Personally, I would not use it for this category. Save it for another - it's a good shot.

I agree, it's not a people shot, but it is a good shot! Save it!

I agree it's an interesting photo, but the people are too distant and partially hidden behind the line of motorcycles to be the subject.

It is only a people image if they are named Harley and Davidson.

With a different composition, it could have been a people shot. Possibly zoomed in on the group with their bikes, using the left forefront bike tank and handlebar as a frame for DOF.

Most photo contests require submission of photos that have not been previously published. So this photo has now been published on the internet and most likely wouldn't qualify for submission based on that fact.

FYI: publish: ( from www.dictionary.com )
verb (used with object)
1. to issue (printed or otherwise reproduced textual or graphic material, computer software, etc.) for sale or distribution to the public.
2. to issue publicly the work of: Random House publishes Faulkner.
3. to announce formally or officially; proclaim; promulgate.
4. to make publicly or generally known.

No... The apparent subject of the photo seems to be the motorcycles. The people are there only as incidental background details.

I appreciate all of you who have told me exactly what I didn't want to hear. I really wanted to include this shot in with another I did of the motorcycle event that definitely would be considered people. What I resent most is that my wife was right in the first place. I hate it when that happens. Maybe I can include them in a different category. Thanks for the help.

A belated laugh from NZ, I was thinking of suggesting a severe crop to make the people the primary subject of the photograph, maybe would have been better with a bit of interaction with at least some of them, but then I read your reply and cant get any further, thank you. I have spent a lifetime trying to prove my wife cant be so right so quickly, and so often. I haven't manged that yet, but I've only been married 25yrs, there's still time.

I was going to let this die because my wife also reads UHH and has keyed into this post. So far I haven't heard the dreaded "I told you so". but I know its coming. I think she is just torturing me by waiting as long as she can before she springs it out. We've been together for more than 25 years and and I have one thing in my bucket list. And that is to win an argument with her when i know she is right.
