I would recommend you invest in one of David Busch's guides to the D3100 rather than depend on Nikon's documentation. He tells you everything the Nikon manual does then explains what each feature of the camera does and describes how to use them.
I have the D3100 love it, but would love to have theD7100. Get Dave's book.
Welcome to the Hog, Jerry. Have fun and shoot often. ;)
Welcome to the forum. This is the best place for learning and sharing information. I had the d3100 and it is a great camera. I sold it to a friend and he loves it. The guide mode is helpful when you are starting out. I used that feature a lot in the beginning and I recently showed my friend how to use it. This camera was a big step-up form his old point and shoot. Get shooting.
Greetings mercury man, and welcome to the UHH!

Jerry, welcome to the hog. You have come to the right place to learn. Just ask questions, post pictures, (like you did,) and get critiquesÂ…As for the two you just posted, technique is not bad, but what are you trying to convey to the viewer? Are those water balloons?

Welcome to UHH Jerry, glad you joined us. May I suggest reading your manual, 3 times if necessary, the Nikon tutorials on your camera and also Utube videos brand and model specific. The "search" section at the top of the page may also contain info on your camera. Have fun and enjoy the forum.
