This is the Saga at the Wooden Boat Classic in Lake Tahoe. It is a 1930 38' Chris Craft Commuter. She was originally named Syrne I and shipped on April 18, 1930 and sold for $15,000 back then. They know that it was owned by the NY State Police Department in the 1940s and 1950s. Syrne I sat outdoors for 23 years where she was ransacked and deteriorated. In 1984 a significant restoration project was started and she was renamed Friendship. In 1998, Friendship was transported to Sierra Boat Company at Lake Tahoe and renamed Saga. She was fully restored over a seven year period. The first picture is how it looked prior to its 1984 restoration.

Wow, $15,000 was quite a handsome sum in those days. I'm guessing, however, that the restoration cost significantly more than the original price of the yacht.
what a transformation, beautiful photography as well

Yeah. It involved a lot of work.

Thanks, Gary. They did a great job on the restoration.
I have always thought those old Chris-Craft boats
were true works of art!
All that beautiful mahogany and metal work is hard to beat.

Love those old Chris Crafts, Ed. The modern fiberglass boats have nowhere near their class and elegance.
Speaking to the owner: As a former owner of a 36 foot express cruiser while living in Florida, I must say that your restored vessel is an eye-popping, head-turning, beauty. Knowing the effort involved in keeping varnished surfaces in tip top shape, it must be a full time job to keep your bright wood in good order.
Enjoy your craft to the fullest. Keep an eye on your bank account as the years pass. But what the heck, its your time to have some fun.
(Be sure and invite you kids along for rides in their inheritance).
