I love my new Canon 10-18mm

For my birthday I got the new Canon 10-18mm Ultra Wide for my 7D! I just have to say, this is a terrific lens for the money! I had been considering either the Tokina 11-16 or the Sigma 8-16mm lenses, but they were in the $550-$650 price range. I have seen menu glowing reviews of this new lens by Canon and, since it was only $299, I thought I'd give it a try! Glad I did.

Yes, it is plastic mount but, even though it is very lite, it doesn't feel "cheap." The IQ is excellent for the price! The fact that is isn't super fast (like the Tokina), the Image Stabilization helps out in low lite, slow shutter speed situations. I have only played with it for a few days now, but I really think this is a great addition to my bag. I predict this new entry of Canon's is going to another very popular low cost lens like the nifty fifty!

That is an interesting lens, I just saw it advertised the other day, I did not know it was even out there, I have a 10-22 that I paid $800 for by the time that I purchased the hood for it. I think that I would have considered the 10-18 for sure at that price, optically the reviews rave about that lens and to top it all off it has image stabilization which compensates a great deal for the slower widest aperture setting... Happy shooting with that lens, wish it had been available when I purchased my ultra wide.

Yeah, I do wish it was a bit faster, but as you say the IS compensates a little for that since you can shoot at relatively slower shutter speeds (which helps with static subjects but maybe not so much with moving subjects in low light. One of the other lenses I had been considering was the Sigma 8-16mm which has the same aperature range as this lens but is more than twice the cost.

You made the right choice, the reviews that lens is getting are fantastic, Rockwell says it is sharper than my 10-22 which is honestly hard to believe because the 10-22 is an amazing lens.

Mine arrived 8 days ago and I'm loving it! Much fun seeing the world slightly wider :)
