As you who live here in the Phoenix area know this is monsoon season and last night we had a rather large and very busy storm approach from the north west. Here's a couple of views from my patio.
Keep in mind the storm was a long way off. I did post work in Gimp, Fast Stone, MS Picture it and Paint.
Look close to see the huge rain shaft at about the center of the shot.

I'd be curious as to how many miles this bolt crossed from right to left and down.

Lightning bolts in Florida can go either direction for miles. Makes for a loud rumbling thunder sound lasting for extended periods.
Many bolts go through clouds and never go towards ground.

Thanks for the comment. It was a really busy storm Bob. Too bad we only got a few drops out of it... oh well monsoon, at least at our house, doesn't mean much. Sun City
