The intent was to make the photograph appear more like a painting. Critique, comments and suggestions welcomed. Thanks 8-)

Settings: ISO 800, 350mm, f/5.3, 1/200 of a second.

I like the overall effect (not hard since horses are a favorite of mine, and draft horses at the top of the list). If it were mine, I would desaturate the bright green grass in the foreground as it tends to jump out and hit one right between the eyes - not all that much, but so it acts more as a backdrop for the white horses and not the main point of interest.

I see your point about the grass Bob. If I do desaturate it would be only slightly, as the wet climate in Scotland does produce bright and varied greens which jump out especially on those overcast days. Thanks for commenting. 8-)

Myself, it looks a bit too sharp to work as a painting, but certainly can't fault the composition here, which is just outstanding. I love the shot. You couldn't have positioned the ponies any better had you tried, and I doubt they would have cooperated in any event, lol.

I don't see "painting," but I do love the pastoral feel. (I'd crop an inch from top :) )

I erred on the stated focal length......it's 62mm, not 350. Sorry

Perhaps you are right about it not working as a painting Randy. Happy you like it as is. The ponies were very cooperative.....it just took a couple of carrots (kidding). :D

Thanks for opining Linda and pastoral might indeed be a better term....I'll take it! :D

Bob makes a good point about desaturating the grass. My taste is that it is very close to dominating the horses. But again, this is a matter of personal presence, not one of IQ. So I'll answer by asking -- how do you (underline 'you') want to see it.
Try a slightly desaturated version and try comparing the two for a few days.

This a beautiful image Bmac with tons of IQ. Most of us would be proud to have produced it.
Most of all, thanks for sharing it.

Pierre

Original again for comparison and beneath that one with the green desaturated as per Bob and Pierre's advice. 8-)
