I got the notice and went to the download page. It showed the new download as 900+ MB, requiring over 5 hours at DSL speed.

I don't recall past updates being so humongous.

Did they screw something up?

So, three possibilities I can think of.

1. They screwed something up with the download file.

2. They added some REALLY, REALLY cool stuff they didn't tell us about--unlikely

3. They fixed something that was broken REALLY bad that no one caught yet and they didn't tell us about.

It took only about 2 hours on my DSL, and mine is not super fast.
The problem I believe is that you are downloading the whole program and not just the updated part.

Thanks.

I'll try again and look for an option.

I got the same download time "quote" when I upgraded to 5.5. However, it did not take that long. Sorry, I don't remember just how long. Right now I'm downloading 5.6. The same download time was quoted. My complaint with Adobe is they do not show download status. Thus, I have no idea where I am in the download trail.

I went for it and it took a couple of hours.

You should be able to show the download status from Explorer's control.

I just hadn't notice how huge the file was before.

Sorry about the mixup. When I said you, I didn't mean you personally.
With adobe you have to download the entire program for the update.

Yes, and it certainly is bloatware.

Take me back to the days when an update was just a patch!

I did the update couple hours ago, had to download the program again , and left me with a new icon. it only to 20min! then had to delete the 5.5 icon, I watched it being downloaded from the cc window {icon in bottom taskbar} did not give me a file size just time remaining!!

Hmmm. I'm using Win 7 on a DSL and a little window in the bottom left of the screen says perhaps 40 minutes left; 50 mb out of 931 mb loaded. We'll see.

could have been 30/35min. I was just not watching time , it just didn't seem that long. {I take short naps}

I think someone at Adobe messed up their calculations. The download site says a T1 line will take over an hour! I just downloaded at 11mbps and it took about 14 minutes. But, yeah, these are big files. LR updates include the whole program and the final step in installation it deletes the old program but leaves the desktop "link-to-nowhere".
