First RAW image I've processed using Light Room - Moth

I shot this moth today and remembered to shoot in both JPEG and RAW. I imported the RAW image to LR and made adjustments that I normally use for JPEG. I think this is the best I've done to-date. I'm assuming it is due to the RAW data. Is there anything special I should do when PP with RAW image?

Okay Bob... I imported into LR and developed with only your recommendations. Doesn't really do anything for me. What do you think?
I had not made adjustments to WB for flash before. I do love that one! Honestly, I just hadn't noticed it before. I have so much to learn.

Thanks Tom. I am more than inept using Lightroom but am trying to stick with it and just learn as I go. I honestly believe it is a great program, I'm just a slow learner (as you know ;) ). I still use Elements on occasion, but have tried not to for a while now. Small improvements keep me happy.

Looking good Susan. Perhaps the whites are a bit hot. LR flash for WB is good if you didn't set it in the camera. Try this:
Contrast: 0
Highlights: -10 through -20
Whites: 0 maybe -10ish
Clarity: 10 - I try to never go over this or pixelation starts to creep in.
Vibrance: 10 through 20 depending on personal taste
Saturation: -4 through 0

Thanks William. Here goes...
I have to admit the coloring is more natural in yours and Bob's versions. Clarity still pulls in noise, even at 10. I didn't do any noise reduction on yours or Bob's recommendations. I think that would help. I did on my PP and even the bottom wing edges improved. The more I try to change my settings, the more I get confused. This is going to take a lot of trial and error. I have not set WB to flash on my camera. I will do that now. If I can improve on one little thing at a time, maybe I'll get there!

Setting WB in camera will help capture more accurate colors. Shooting a grey card for custom WB is best. Image is better whites aren’t as hot but it’s a little dark. Set White to zero, set clarity to 5 or 0, and move exposure to the right. My initial thought is somewhere in the .25 to .75 range. Feel free to deviate as your eyes see fit. It took me a few months to get a real good feel for adjusting RAW images. It’s very easy to overdo it. Proper exposure in the field makes the adjustments a lot easier. The initial adjustments i gave you were very mild so your field exposure is in the ballpark. Your on your way just keep plugging away and you’ll learn the nuisances. Once you get the hang of it it’s actually fun to fine tune an image.

I'm plugging! Will try the new settings and see what else I can come up with.

Very nice shot and I like how you processed it. The tones, color and details are all good to me.

Thank you Waltchilds! The more I look at it, the better I like it, as a "picture". I actually think it is kind of beautiful, it just doesn't look like it could be a real butterfly. For now, it is my wallpaper on my computer anyway! :)
