Just a couple of bees

Trying to get over my fear of bees, while trying out a new flash modification I put together. On a side note about the flash I used, I dug out a small beauty dish 8-10" which was too small for what I ordered it for, it came with a diffuser lens covering the whole assembly. I used a couple of layers of a plastic bag to try and diffuse it even more because I was getting hot spots. It did eliminate the hot spots, but oddly there is a rainbowing/moire effect in the highlights, which I think is being caused by the plastic bags or the lens covering the dish. I think I will try some paper towel behind the diffuser and see if this eliminates the issue, otherwise I will scrap the new modifier and return to the softbox.

I do like the small size of the beauty dish though. I also went from using the onboard flash as a commander and went to a sync cable so I could gain more manual control over the flash output, but since I do not really know too much about flash this maybe asking for more issues than it solves but I figure the best way to learn is to just keep plugging away.

Focus is not the greatest but I included some photos I shot today at lunch, had an hour long lunch due to a safety promotion which I refused to attend.

Honestly I love the bokeh but would love to get the whole critter in focus. I can tell I am beginning to get a bit better with control of focus. Over the past week I have spent my waking hours doing macro and the wee hours with astronomy till my mount went kaput. Slightly bothersome considering it is only a couple of months old. It is being replaced and should be here Thursday so no bigloss, other than I have been waiting months to try out backyardNikon ( http://forum.otelescope.com/post/backyardnikon-v1-beta-progress-grid-6857530?pid=1282424740 ) and now that it is released, my mount is down for repairs, but so is the story of my life.
