Flies are around so good opportunity to practise. Also a Snout nosed Weevil, a scale insect and a tiny flying insect which I have not idea where to start on ID.

Thank you Douglass, I just read your link. It seems that while they are very attractive they are quite harmful to plants particularly here in the hot sun and drought conditions. I don't think we have that many to worry about so I will let them be. I think I have photographed one before without knowing what it was, I'll go back and check. I think our plum tree is the attractant.

Thanks William, they are one of the few flying insects that let me get close enough.

Thanks waltchilds, there are enough flies about at the moment to take advantage of.

Nice facet captures on the flies eyes Brenda....I see comments on Pbase of how everyone loved a guy's fly capture. Thing was, they missed focus as you could not see the facets in it's eyes like you have...

Thanks Scott, I strive for good focus but don't always get it.

Thanks Tom, yes they do make good subjects. Now I want to find some other varieties of fly to practise with.
