An Exercise in Futility...
Trying to capture flying insects that won't land (and if they do, it's just for a split second).... The images of this species of fly
look good until you enlarge them, then they are not sharp. The durn thing kept flying around the small Goldenrod plant (which has a small white caterpillar & some aphids on it too) & wouldn't land. It eventually flew off. This was all I got of it that was anywhere in any sort of focus...
Welcome to my world. However, your photo is still good and it is an interesting looking fly. Have you managed to ID it?
I share your pain Scott. It happens to me on a daily basis. :-( But it really is good practice and I see so many things I've never seen before... even in my out-of-focus shots and learn more about the art of macro with every attempt. What a great hobby!
I am sooooo glad to see this doesn't happen only to me but to others as well.
