I am getting really frustrated with my lightroom. I have re arranged alot of my photos on my hard drive and now they are " lost " to lightroom. i know how to locate them but i cannot figure out how to show them where a whole folder is. i have highlited all photos i the bottom strip and then showed lightroom where they are it it only locates one of the photos. will i have to do one photo at time?? and it wont let me re imort them either. so now i cannot work with them till they are located.

The good news is they aren't gone, the bad news is that Lightroom can't find them because it's still looking in the old location. You can import them from their present location by going to the Library module and clicking import then navigating to their new location. There may be an easier way but if there is I don't know it and hopefully someone else at UHH will.

Since Lightroom is both a data base that keeps track of your images, and a marvelous tool for performing a lot tasks in post processing, it is better to not rename images or to move any to your internal hard drive or an external hard dive without doing so from within Lightroom.

Having said that, here is an answer on a way to synchronize your folders between Lightroom and any hard drives you may have:

Go to the left hand panel in the library module and click on the
folder that needs updating and select that by clicking on it.

Next, go to the menu bar at the top of the application and click on "library", doing so will open up a drop down list, go down the list and click "Synchronize Folder ..."

Then answer what ever questions that are in that box that pertain to you and then click on the "Highlighted" box down in the right hand side that says "synchronize".

And hopefully it will solve your problem.

Ain't Lightroom a bitch?

It's a powerful program, but very finicky and, often, not very user-friendly.

thanks for all the advice.i will try it. i just cannot if i like it or not. I read the whole kelby book on it last summer. But i just have a hard time with it. i like the editing features but it takes so long to load a picture. and i keep losing my pictures. i cannot keep track of how to open a new folder either. oh well,i will keep working with it.

Re-linking to moved folders in LR is really pretty simple but there are a couple of ways to do it. If it's just a few files you can click on the question mark icon on the image and then click "Locate". Find the file's new location on your system. Check the dialog box that says "Locate nearby missing photos" and then click Select". LR will then have the correct location for those files. If you've moved a lot of files and folders you may need to use the approach in the second video below.

Here are links to 2 videos that should help make the process a bit more clear. Hope this helps.

It has some gotcha's for the unweary, but overall I like it and use it every day in my post processing work flow.
