Shooting a small. light-colored subject (spider) on a dark background, is difficult to hold proper contrast. Are you processing raw file, or JPG image?

Consider shooting simultaneous raw + high rez JPG. You can review the JPGs, but processing a raw file will allow better contrast, brightness, and saturation manipulation.
You might have been able to prevent highlight burn-out on spider.

Third shot of the Mayfly is good and as a subject has huge potential. Look at the details and colors in the wings, eyes and antennae. If these are abundant in you neck of the woods you should really go out and shoot it at different angles, perspectives, settings, etc.

Nice shots. Is the first one a juvenile black widow? Eyes look right to me.
