went to a local airshow this afternoon, got some shots of a couple of planes i haven't seen fly before... a P-38 Lightning and a Vought F-4U Corsair. the twin-engined P-38 is the type flown by Richard Bong, the top US ace in the Pacific theater, and the Corsair is instantly recognizable as the plane flown by "Pappy" Boyington and his "Black Sheep" squadron... shot with the 7D and 100-400l lens at various focal lengths and apertures, 1/125-1/160 second in Tv mode...

Very nicely done - I'm currently practising with the 100-400 plus extender mounted on a heavy tripod and cheapo wimberley-type head, all in an attempt to get slow enough and near enough for propeller movement with sharp aircraft. Did you use a tripod?

They are all excellent! The first one of the P-38 is outstanding. Great job all around. ..... Coot

One can still see the F4Us at airshow around, but the P-38 is something special..Haven't seen one in years. Thanks for showing this old warbird.

thanks, Magnetoman... no tripod, these were handheld. at that venue, there's no room for a tripod unless you're in the second or third echelon of photographers, and i was right in front... lots of swinging lenses!

Gee, thanks for the pics - now I really feel deprived. I'd been looking forward to that event since May. Got a leg infection, so had to sit this one out. So far my membership hasn't done me much good.

You got much better shots than I would have I'm sure. Very nice. Good to see what might have been.

Cheers,

Really well done, so many times you see photos that stop the propellers. You nailed it TFS

Great shots of those wonderful old 'birds'. I like that you caught the propellers slightly blurred, showing they were flying, not just hanging in the sky.
