Bridge Camera Question

From previous posts it appears that the Canon SX50 is a great bridge camera. I am going to Australia in October and would like to take a bridge camera for those days I don't want to lug my Canon 60D with Tamron 18-270 lens. My question is: does anyone know if a model replacement for the Canon SX50 is on the horizon and will be released prior to October 2014?

Thanks in advance for any input.

You might want to consider the New panasonic FZ1000...it's being released in just a few day (July 27). From the reviews, it looks like it's going to be great. It doesn't have quite the zoom as the sx50, but it has a faster lens.

I would wait to see what happens, but if a new camera is announced which looks like an improvement, order it immediately so you get near the front of the pre-order list. If you order from stores like B&H and Adorama with a credit card (not paypal), they do not charge you until the order is fulfilled. If the camera does not ship within a few weeks of your trip, you can always order the Canon SX50 and have it in a few days.

Canon has held releases after the 70D to a bare minimum in plans of making a big splash for Photokina in September. The 3 biggest releases at that time will be the 7D Mk2 body, 100-400mm two ring zoom lens, and the SX60 bridge camera. There are some others rumored also, but those are the three that are for sure.

Then the problem for JackB is how long after the announcement before the SX60 ships.

That's always a problem with DSLRs and lenses, but most point & shoots and bridge cameras are in dealers stock at announcement. MOST, but not all.

Thanks, that makes sense. In more mass-market oriented products, people aren't going to wait to get the item after they hear about it. Obviously, the 7D Mark II people will wait, they've been trained already. :-D

Unless Canon replaces the tiny 1/2.3 sensor I would avoid it. There is so much better available.
