Would appreciate helpful comments regarding using the Nikon SB-600 flash unit off camera and without the wire tether to my Nikon D300 camera. I know it can be done as a I saw it demonstrated once but I can't remember the settings in the camera and flash unit. Thanks in advance for your help.

Here are several articles.. It is fairly easy. Just remember to get both the camera and the SB-600 set to the same channel. (this threw me on the D70 as the default was 2 and the default on my SB-800 was 3).

And here is Nikon's Fast track pdf again.

I have a different Nikon body and flash, but the functionality should be the same. The key is that the built-in flash needs to be in "Commander" mode, while the speedlight is in "Remote" mode.
